A week from today we'll have the July solicitation.

Candidates include (but are not limited to):

  • Challengers, V1
  • Dark Knight, V4
  • Teen Titans, V1
  • All-Star, V9
  • Tor, V3
  • Elfquest, V1 (assuming this really is an Archive)
  • somthing from left field

Will there be 1 volume? 2 volumes? 3 volumes? An advance solicitation for Oct or Nov?

My picks:

Challengers, V1 (early July)
Dark Knight, V4 (late July)

From the hints we got from that book catalogue and Osgood's excelent analysis of the 4-week pattern, this month seems easy to predict.

Which is why we will all be surprised by Plastic Man!

I agree that it's almost certain to be Challengers and Dark Knight, for the reasons you mention.
I'm guessing that we'll also see Elfquest vol.1, just in time for San Diego, and that it'll fit the format of what we'd consider an archive.
No advance solicitations this month.

The every-four-weeks pattern will have to break up at some point in order to give us 14 DCU volumes in 52 weeks. Here's my guess for the rest of the year:

Aug. Teen Titans 1
Aug. Tor 3
Aug. Spirit 11

Sept. Atom 2
Sept. Batman by Neal Adams 1
Sept. Absolute Authority 2 (as a Wildstorm book, this really doesn't belong on this list, any more than the ABC hardcovers do, but...)

Oct. All-Star 9
Oct. the mystery 8th Silver Age volume (my guess is World's Finest 3)

Nov. the mystery Golden Age vol.1 (my guess is GA Hawkman 1)
Nov. Spirit 12

Dec. Plastic Man 5
Dec. THUNDER Agents 3

Thanks, NI ... I got an strange, but understandable, urge for this contest this morning, and you have provided a timely resolution.

My picks are:

Challengers of the Unknown V1 July 2
Elfquest V1 July 16
Dark Knight V4 July 30

Dark Knight V4 & SA Flash V4

OK, so SA Flash is a pipe dream, but a guy can dream can't he!

Here's my guess:

Challengers 1
All-Star 9

No particular reason, I just can't wait for the next All-Star volume, and it seems like DC has had time to put the volume together. Also, we've seen 2 Batman volumes in the past six months, right?

The smart money would be on Challs & Dark Knight, from the clues so far. But IIRC, that catalog had them coming out in different months - so I'll be obstinate and stick with Challs (Jul. 2nd) and Supergirl 2 (July 30th) as my guesses.

Challengers V.1 (early July)
All Star V.9 (late July) - It gets the edge over Dark Knight 4 just because it's not that long since Dynamic Duo archives 1.

It's gotta be Supergirl (first choice) or Superboy but, even better, how about Action Comics four???

"Action Comics, V4" won't be released one month after "Superman, V6", either. There'll be at least 6 months before another GA Superman book.

I peeked, so all I will say is that there is a trade paperback of Kirby's Jimmy Olsen stories.

This contest was strangled almost as soon as it started. The only thing left to predict is the release dates.

Since we have a pretty good idea what's coming in August, that's kind of a bust, too. Maybe we should have the September contest the day after the August solicitation, instead of near the September solicitation. At least then, we'll have a couple of weeks before the news starts leaking.
